This section offers news briefs on the U.S. federal government as of September 2008. The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education (STEM) for the 21st Century legislation was introduced by Senators Joe Lieberman and Norm Coleman. Nominations of qualified individuals for eight existing advisory committees are being sought by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The Department of Energy (DOE) will team up with the private sector to advance high performance commercial sustainable buildings.
