- Abstract
The article focuses on the block assignment system of the pedodontic patient care unit of the Marquette University's School of Dentistry located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is stated that while the junior assignment, which comprises of oral examinations, preventive dental treatment and patient instruction, are handled by the junior students to practice a limited amount of restorative dentistry. The senior students handles the senior block assignments which includes treatment of new patients. Experts state that the major advantage of this structural segmentation is that the faculty members get a chance to monitor the students before they assigned to the Pedodontic Department. They state that the major disadvantage is that the students fail to master the art of total patient care.
