- Abstract
The disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) was first recognized in the 80s and since then has changed the history of mankind as one of the most feared epidemics of society. From the 80s to the 90s the profile of HIV carriers consisted mainly homosexuals, injecting drug users and people who received blood transfusions and blood products. Since 2011, thousands of cases have been reported in the female population and the appearance of people over 50 years with the disease has also been identified. The purpose of this article is to show the contemporary profile of the disease in Várzea Grande - Mato Grosso, using data obtained from 2011 to 2014, comparing them with the results obtained in other regions of the country. The new profile found in patients in the SAE-CTA Várzea Grande and data from the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO).
