- Abstract
"Imperfect Victims: Criminalized Survivors and the Promise of Abolition Feminism" by Leigh Goodmark is a book that explores the criminalization of survivors of gender-based violence in the United States over the past 40 years. The author, a lawyer and law professor, uses storytelling to highlight the experiences of these survivors and their encounters with the criminal legal system. Goodmark argues that feminist engagement with the law has contributed to the criminalization of survivors, and she calls for a radical reevaluation of responses to gender-based violence through the lens of abolition feminism. The book provides a comprehensive account of the lived experiences of criminalized survivors and offers insights into the need for systemic change.
