- Title
Employee Time Theft: The Role of Overall Justice and Thriving at Work.
- Authors
Hong, Michelle C.; Wokutch, Richard E.
- Abstract
Time theft by employees is detrimental to organizations. Studies have theorized perceptions of organizational justice as a determinant of time theft; however, there is a lack of understanding of why and how this occurs. This study proposes that perceptions of overall justice affect how employees thrive at work and subsequently influence their time theft behavior. In a sample of 132 full-time employees in the service industry, the present study supports the hypothesized mediation model. This study empirically validates employees’ perceptions of overall justice as an antecedent to employee time theft and uncovers thriving as the key mechanism that transmits the influence of the perceptions of overall justice on time theft. Possible future research and managerial implications are discussed.
