- Authors
Steinman, Michael A.
- Abstract
Deprescribing research has gained significant interest in the past decade, with studies showing the potential for deprescribing to improve outcomes, such as reducing mortality and falls in nursing homes. However, challenges remain, including disappointing results from some interventions and the difficulty of deprescribing in clinical practice. The author offers six recommendations for the future of deprescribing research, including the need to understand fundamental questions about medication problems and incorporating behavior change strategies. The author also emphasizes the importance of strategic outcomes, prioritizing high-risk groups, using innovative approaches, and collaborating with partners in various research fields and health systems.
