- Abstract
Over 16 million Spanish speakers in the United States have limited English proficiency (LEP).[1] Hispanic populations have higher rates of morbidity and mortality from skin disease and are less likely to utilize dermatology services.[2] Only half of this demographic has private insurance, limiting their access to private dermatology offices.[3] Language-concordant care improves health outcomes and patient satisfaction, but the availability of Spanish-language care in academic dermatology has not been evaluated. We aimed to characterize the prevalence of academic dermatology clinics providing language concordant care to Spanish-speaking patients. Cross-sectional evaluation of Spanish-language care at academic dermatology clinics.
