- Abstract
Dear Editor, Histoplasmosis is a systemic mycosis that commonly affects immunocompromised individuals. (d) Lactophenol cotton blue mount showing tuberculate macroconidia gl Primary cutaneous histoplasmosis is a rare entity caused by accidental inoculation of the causative organism into the skin. On the other hand, disseminated cutaneous lesions in histoplasmosis mostly occur as a result of hematogenous spread from the primary pulmonary focus and are common in immunocompromised states.2 In a previous case series of immunocompetent patients with histoplasmosis from India, mucocutaneous involvement was present in nearly 36% of the cases.3 However, it is essential to note that most of these cases had either mucosal or associated systemic involvement, and most cases of isolated cutaneous histoplasmosis presented with one or few localized lesions.3-5 There are very few reported cases of disseminated histoplasmosis in the immunocompetent cases, where the patients presented with only cutaneous lesions.
