- Title
legal update. Civil Marriage Certificate Requirement for Health Insurance Coverage Upheld.
- Abstract
The article discusses the U.S. court case, Abdus-Shahid et al. versus Mayor and City Council of Baltimore in Maryland heard by the Fourth Circuit Court in which Abdus-Shahid claims infringement of the exercise of religion as well as religious discrimination after the health insurance of his spouse was revoked because of his failure to provide a civil marriage certificate. The Court has ruled that the employer's requirement to establish spouse's health coverage was neutral toward religion.
