- Abstract
The article presents a study which evaluates the performance of intraspecific occupancy-abundance relationship (OAR)-based model and scaling pattern of occupancy (SPO) in extrapolating population size in the avian species of southern Africa. It shows that SPO models exceeded OAR models because the latter assume environmental homogeneity. It notes that SPO models are fitted at larger-scale data because they are based on scale dependence of the range size of the avian species.
