- Abstract
The article presents a study on the role of geologic, climatic, economic and demographic factors in forest spatial pattern changes in the U.S. Correlates of change, scale of vegetation classification and their hierarchical scale are identified. It shows that broad-scale social systems that encompass landownership systems, cultural value systems and economic market structures appear in all significant models.
