- Title
Europe 1992 and a unified Germany: opportunities and threats for United States firms.
- Authors
Weinrich, Heinz
- Abstract
The article discusses the impact of the European Commission's (EC) 1992 program and the unification of Germany on U.S. firms. The unification of Germany is expected to provide additional business opportunities. The General Motors Corp. is opening a facility in East Germany, where the land is considered cheap and the demand for automobiles is high. McDonald's announced it will open 100 restaurants in the region. Analysts predict that smaller U.S. companies will have a harder time taking advantage of business opportunities. They also question whether East Germans will adapt quickly to a free market economy.
