An editorial is presented which addresses the author's views about an average life expectancy target, and it mentions another article which appears in the same issue of the journal and deals with the challenges that are associated with the U.S. Institute of Medicine's life expectancy goal. Per capita health spending and health inequities in the U.S. are examined, along with America's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and medical care costs in the country.
