- Abstract
On‐site measurement for generating photovoltaic (PV) modules is important for detecting many PV cell failures; however, measuring the working cell voltage in a PV module is impractical. We improve a noncontact estimation method (modulated light–irradiation method) that irradiates modulating laser light to detect the synchronized signal in the PV module output current using an alternating current (AC) clamp sensor and a lock‐in amplifier to realize real‐time observation of the working cell voltage. We used a preamplifier with a high‐pass filter to enhance the sensitivity of the AC clamp sensor and lock‐in amplifier with an electronically modulated semiconductor laser while considering the conditions for the lock‐in amplifier and the preamplifier. Experiments under a solar simulator with weakly vibrating light at 100 Hz and results of time‐fluctuating voltages of all the cells under noise‐reduction‐optimized conditions are performed for validation. This procedure also reduces the time required to scan all cell voltages in PV modules. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineer of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.
