- Abstract
The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of bean cultivars on the infestation of Empoasca kraemeri Ross & Moore and Caliothrips phaseoli (Hood), in dry season, as well as the reflexes on the yield. The assay was carried out at Fazenda de Pesquisa, Ensino e Extensão of FEIS/UNESP, at Selvíria, MS. The bean cultivars used were: IAC Aeté, IAC Tunã, IAC Tybatã, IAC Votuporganga, IAC Apuã and Pérola. Sowing was performed in 18/04/07 in randomized blocks design, with four replications. Nine samplings were performed, weekly, starting at 12 days after emergence (DAE) whereby 10 leaflets of the mid part of the plants per plot were collected at random, and in laboratory the number of nymphs of leafhopper and thrips were quantified. There was no difference of the infestation of E. kraemeri and C. phaseoli among the cultivars in any sampling performed in the different DAE. All the evaluated bean cultivars were susceptible to the attack of E. kraemeri and C. phaseoli. The leafhopper occurred in higher population densities after 40 DAE, whereas the infestation of thrips was restricted to the emergence until 40 DAE. The cultivar Pérola showed the highest weight of pods, overall weight of seeds and 100 seeds, and IAC Tunã was the most yielding.
