- Title
The Hidden Influences of Office Design.
- Authors
Ornstein, Suzyn
- Abstract
This article looks at the influences of office design on job performance, job attitudes and impressions. Elements of office design are divided into the two categories of office layout and office decor. The configuration of office space and the choice of traditional or open-offices has a great impact on employee behavior, particularly communication. Redesigning an office space can foster collaborative efforts and allow for improved communication and productivity. A study is discussed in which changes to an open-office layout in a manufacturing firm resulted in an improved information flow. The author feels that the choice of traditional or open-offices should be determined according to the importance of privacy as well as the noise levels resulting from the type of work performed.
