- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of the novel "Sea of Poppies," by Amitav Ghosh, in which the author applies a postcolonial analysis to the themes in the novel of opium and heterogeneous human encounters that result from migrations. Topics include the novel's use of the Indian Ocean as a site of transnational connectivity and commerce for the British Empire in the 19th century, Britain's opium trade, and the role of migrant labourers.
