- Abstract
At the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, the ExacTrac system, manufactured by Brainlab AG (Brainlab AG, 2013), is used for image guided radiotherapy (IGRT). The ExacTrac system is a part of the NovalisTx linear accelerator and is used for daily patient positioning as well as for the monitoring of patient position during the treatment delivery. The system operated by the software installed at the workstation is composed of an x-ray part, infrared part and of a robotic couch. The x-ray part consists of two kV X-Ray units with their own generators recessed into the treatment room floor and of two ceiling-mounted amorphous silicon flat panel detectors. The infrared part is composed of two infrared cameras and of infrared markers. The automatic robotic couch allows moving and inclining the patient to ensure that the patient position is the same as it was when the CT scan was made. Before the treatment, the patient is positioned in its isocenter and X-ray imaging is performed. The software matches the images and corrects the patient position. X-ray verification is carried out to ensure the correct patient movements and inclinations done by the infrared part. The system allows imaging at various couch positions. The ExacTrac system provides patient positioning which is fast, accurate, automatic and independent from linac, and is therefore a patient and user friendly technology.
