- Abstract
In this contribution we will review the situation in the Spanish university regarding the processes of formation and evaluation of teachers in higher education. The social demand regarding the university and its role in the development of society and citizenship, the changes resulting from the Bologna Process and the explicit processes and continuous assessment and accreditation in universities, have set up a new vista in Spanish universities, All this influences the policy formation and evaluation of teachers. The initial and continuing training of university faculty, as a research and, above all, as a teacher, has a long tradition, but has been substantially driven by recent university reforms. In parallel, the government, directly and through assessment agencies, and the universities with their own internal offices, have implemented evaluation policies. These policies are bringing substantial changes in the way we understand the roles of teachers, and their daily development. Both show the new policy priorities in the Spanish university, which opts for quality improvement, but also looks at the need to make visible to the outside that inside bet.
