- Abstract
By the time the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, the economies of the Pacific Islands had integrated more into the global economy than ever before. In many Pacific Island countries, people were also encouraged to return to their rural home villages and practice subsistence agriculture during the COVID-19 pandemic. RE -STORYING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Pacific Islands governments' response has largely been to restore the economy to the way it was prior to the pandemic. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and its negative impacts on the Fijian economy and employment, a movement called "Barter For Better Fiji" was established (Tora 2020).
