- Abstract
The article informs about a practical method for measuring the synthesis and decay of messenger RNA (mRNA), which promises new insight into cellular regulation. In the study of biological processes, the development of methods to observe the production, relative position and persistence of cells and their macromolecular constituents have been crucial preludes to improving the accuracy of modeling these processes. A report in this issue of the journal describes a broadly applicable technique to specifically label mRNA transcripts in vitro and in vivo that can be precisely applied with regard to both time and cell type, and its application in a study of transcriptional dynamics.
