The article offers information on the history of the term boilerplate. It is stated that boilerplate is the legal language that gets copied from document to document. It notes that the term started in 19th-century newspapers and was coined in honor of the American Press Association. It also mentions that the term is a combination of archaic terminology and frenzied verbosity that is common in the documents that ordinary people deal with including leases, mortgages and insurance policies.
