- Abstract
The article discusses examines the bone mineral density (BMD) on mouse distal chromosome 1 (Chr 1), candidate genes and response to ovariectomy or dietary fat. Results of histomorphometry and osteoblast cultures revealed the association of increased osteoblast activity with increased BMD in mouse strains with C3H alleles in the distal Chr 1 region. Findings showed that bone loss in the B6/Bm progenitor gene and the congenic strains was induced by ovariectomy, while high dietary fat treatment did not induce bone loss in the congenics carrying C3H alleles.
