- Abstract
Introduction: Q fever is a zoonosis found the world over caused by Coxiella burnetii (C. burnetii), which infection often features a CFS-like condition called QFS. Since this condition is often marked by a wide range of psychiatric symptoms. Case: A female student, aged 19, who was receiving treatment with psychotropic drugs for psychiatric symptoms were found to be infected with C. burnetii. Antibiotics and Kampo medicine, together with CBT, were added to the treatment regimen and improvement in symptoms was achieved. Discussion: In the present case, a patient being treated to little effect with psychotropic drugs tested positive for C. burnetii infection and subsequently responded well to treatment with antibiotics and a Kampo formula and also CBT. Conclusion: It may be necessary in treating QFS to consider multimodality therapy including CBT.
