- Abstract
The article discusses the work of Pennsylvanian Edward Jay Allen in building the Naches Pass wagon road in Washington Territory in the mid-19th century. It examines Allen's written records of the building project, including his efforts in soliciting subscriptions to pay for the construction of the road, the role of laborer Robert Moore in removing insects from the road path, and the significance of laborer Whitfield Kirtley to the construction of the road.
