- Authors
MONDUATE, MAITE PALIZA
- Abstract
Painting on palettes became very popular between the 19th and 20th centuries and served as a medium for many themes, normally done by a single painter. Rarer are those like the one presented in this article, done by several painters. Painted in Rome, it can be framed within the relations among Spanish artists living there and is a magnificent example of the genre. Fifteen painters of different generations took part, among them names with the stature of Federico de Madrazo, José Villegas or Joaquín Sorolla. The painting is made of diverse motifs that together constitute a collection in miniature of the so-called Spanish School in Rome.
