- Abstract
For some time, there has been a growing awareness of the physical neurological impacts that severe trauma can have. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric condition that involves the presence of trauma-related memories and a heightened physiological stress at varying times and in response to a variety of triggers. Subsequently, the condition can have profoundly disabling mental impacts. Over time, such highly activated symptoms can cause neurological changes. This article discusses the effects of PTSD on brain structure and chemistry, exploring the link between mental injury and the brain.
