- Abstract
This document is a response to a letter to the editor by Michael Colucciello regarding the use of corticosteroids in the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). The authors acknowledge Colucciello's personal experience and his previous publication on the combination of triamcinolone and an anti-VEGF agent for nAMD treatment. They note that while this combination therapy was previously used, it has become rare due to the availability of more potent drugs for nAMD. The authors discuss the side effects associated with the combination therapy and the use of dexamethasone as an alternative treatment. They also mention the potential benefits of newer drugs with anti-VEGF and anti-inflammatory properties. The authors support the assessment of combined anti-inflammatory and anti-VEGF therapy for nAMD based on recent clinical studies. The authors disclose their affiliations with pharmaceutical companies but state that it did not affect the outcomes presented in the report. No funding was received for this article.
