- Abstract
Nonradiative dielectric waveguides employing metamaterial media are studied with the aim of obtaining unimodal surface-wave propagation for the operating low-loss LSM01 mode. Homogeneous isotropic ℇ-negative media are considered, with a plasma-like frequency-dependent relative permittivity. The use of such media allows for obtaining the desired unimodal propagation in suitable frequency ranges, provided that the metamaterial slab thickness and the metal-plate spacing are sufficiently small. Parametric analyses are performed to determine the attainable frequency bandwidths. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
