- Authors
Donnelly, S C
- Abstract
The article discusses the long COVID syndrome (LCS) and its significant burden on patients, families, and society. It highlights that LCS often presents with brain-related symptoms such as fatigue and difficulty multitasking. A systematic review found that up to 15% of non-hospitalized LCS patients experienced loss of smell and/or taste, negatively impacting their quality of life. The article welcomes a randomized controlled trial from Tongji University, China, which demonstrates the beneficial effects of early nasal irrigation and mouthwash in reducing persistent olfactory and gustatory dysfunction in COVID-19 patients. Additionally, the article mentions a commentary piece on suicide in individuals without psychiatric disorders, emphasizing the role of life stressors, lack of social support, and certain personality traits in vulnerability to suicide.
