- Title
Algae-based biodiesel.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the commercialization of the patented Vertigro processes involving the growing and harvesting of algae and extraction of oil from it to produce biodiesel. The Vertigro processes were developed by Valencent Products Inc. and Global Green Solutions Inc. For this, in the continuous, closed-loop bioreactor constructed by Grayling Industries Inc., the algae in water circulates through 10-feet high, ultraviolet stable plastic tubes and are exposed to sunlight. President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Valencent Products, Glen Kertz, mentions the advantages of the bioreactors over ponds as they have higher surface area to get exposed to the sunlight and there is no loss of water vapour due to evaporation.
