History in the News.
Abstract
The article focuses on the continuous contact between the Indonesian people called Makassans and indigenous Australians for many years before British explorer Captain James Cook discovered Australia. A replica traditional boat calle perahu sailing from Indonesia to Northern Australia shows that history might be different to the accepted version. Increasing physical evidence of links between Indonesians fishing and trading with indigenous peoples of Northern Australia are also cited.
