- Title
Some psychiatric survivors can't survive the system.
- Authors
FORCHUK, CHERYL
- Abstract
The author reflects on how long it will be before the Canadian government will take action on the injustices that psychiatric survivors have had to endure. She asserts that such vulnerable people have been trapped in a system that deinstitutionalized them with little consideration about what the outcome of mental health reform would be, particularly in relation to housing. She cites a pilot study that involved hospitals, the local Canadian Mental Health Association and income support agencies, with a goal to improve the system and prevent homelessness.
