- Title
Recognition of Giftedness in the Early Years of School: Perspectives of Teachers, Parents, and Children.
- Authors
Hodge, Kerry A.; Kemp, Coral R.
- Abstract
The authors report on a small sampling to study the accuracy with which Australian teachers identify giftedness in young children. Data were collected through questionnaire responses from teachers and parents, and interviews with and norm-referenced tests on the children. Results indicate that teachers' ratings relied heavily on test results, children with nonverbal abilities were less likely to be recognized than those with verbal ability, and social behavior can influence underestimation.
