- Authors
Owens, Thomas
- Abstract
The article looks at the German tutor George Ernest Papendiek, who tutored William Wordsworth, Jr., the youngest son of the English poet William Wordsworth, beginning in 1829. The author discusses the initial positive reception of Papendiek by the Wordsworth family to Wordsworth, Jr. eventually leaving in 1830. The article then covers what little information is available on the life and family of Papendiek, noting that much of the difficulty in researching Papendiek is due to confusion regarding the spelling of the last name, which Wordsworth spelled as "Papendick."
