- Abstract
Background: Adolescents are more likely to develop non-communicable diseases like nutritional problems, which can lead to obesity and other non-communicable diseases like excess weight in the body. Exercise is recognized as the fastest, least expensive, and most adaptable strategy to keep oneself healthy and fit. Given these circumstances, it is essential for students to engage in community service by using peer-to-peer health promotion techniques. These exercises should ostensibly help students learn new abilities. Purpose: this community service aims to increase knowledge and develop communication skills of medical students. Method: This community service activity applies training methods, which include pretest and posttest stages, providing educational materials and implementing student health promotion skills to peers. Results: The results of the pretest and posttest in this activity showed an increase in the percentage of correct answers from students. In the question component test related to muscle physiology and the concept of body fitness, each increased by 57.6% and 42.2%. In addition, the results of the test component of questions about the form of physical exercise increased from 11.7% to 60.6%. This activity also succeeded in increasing student skills in carrying out health promotion to peers. Conclusion: Based on the outcomes of this community service project, it can be said that students now have a greater understanding of sports concepts and physical activity techniques, as well as the ability to educate their peers informally about the advantages of exercise in order to improve their own health.
