- Abstract
Shield clogging is likely to occur during shield tunneling in gravelly soil ground, so the soil conditioning parameters should be optimized reasonably to reduce the risk of clogging. Based on the central Yunnan water diversion project, this paper first analyzes the risk of shield clogging in gravel soil ground and the foaming performance of dispersed foam agent. Then, the workability of shield muck conditioned by dispersed foam in gravel soil ground and the control technology of shield clogging are explored in combination with slump tests and Atterberg limits tests. The control technology of shield clogging in gravel soil ground is verified through field tests. The results indicate the following: (1) The foaming rate increases with the increase of dispersed foam agent concentration, it increases first and then decreases with the increase of foaming pressure, and reaches the optimal when the foaming pressure is 3bar; (2) Dispersed foam agent can reduce the risk of shield clogging by effectively improving the workability of shield muck and reducing the Atterberg limits of gravelly soil; ( 3) The recommended values of soil conditioning parameters for gravel soil ground are put forward and applied to the practical project. After application, the total thrust and torque of the shield are significantly lowed and their dispersion degree is reduced. The shield tunneling speed was improved considerably, and the rationality of the control technology of shield clogging for the gravel soil layer is proved.
