- Abstract
The burnout syndrome is a negative experience that the health staff can experience in response to stress factors which they are constantly facing. In order to describe the prevalence of burnout syndrome in the health staff personnel of a hospital in the department of Risaralda, a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive-scope study was designed. A form of socio-demographic data and the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Health Services Survey (MBI - HSS) were applied to a non-random sample of 195 participants (80% women and 20% men). The results showed that the prevalence of burnout syndrome is high for emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and intermediate for personal fulfillment. These results indicate the need for intervention programs that lead to burnout syndrome prevention and promotion of healthy behaviors for these professionals.
