- Abstract
The fundamental question of whether living the gospel is necessarily individually based or community based has been a persistent source of friction within Congregationalism. This conflict notably manifested itself in the formation of the League to Uphold Congregational Principles and the ensuing enmity among Congregationalists caught up in the highly charged political currents of the mid 20th century. Conflict is both inevitable and transformative; will Congregationalism in the future engage conflict destructively or creatively?
