The article discusses the functions of neutrophils in inflammation and immunity. Topics discussed include neutrophils playing critical role in innate immune defense but also contributing to tissue damage during excessive inflammation, showing during the sensitization phase of contact hypersensitivity, and neutrophils are also able to release a number of pro-inflammatory mediatorsincluding chemokines, cytokines and lipid mediators.
