- Title
The Big Bang: 25 Years of Software History.
- Abstract
The article presents a time line of computer software history of selected events from 1984 to 2008. It comments on such events as the first Apple Macintosh and Fred Cohen's article "Computer Virus - Theory and Experiments" in 1984, and Microsoft Corporation going public in 1986. It mentions that the U.S. Naval Postgraduate school offered the first doctoral program in software engineering in 1998, the same year that Google Inc. was founded. It comments on fears of the Y2K bug in 1999 and the large expenditure of money to avoid possible problems with out-of-date code.
