- Abstract
This study deals with some of the debates brought to the agenda within the scope of granting legal status to Jemevis in Turkey. These discussions once again became a hot topic after the program organized in October 2022, on the occasion of the President's inauguration of some jemevis newly built by the state and laying the groundwork for what will be done. In the following developments, first the Presidential Decree was published on the subject, then the jemevis were given legal status with the legal regulation made by the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Thereupon, some organizations and individuals have discussed the issue from different aspects. In these discussions, it is seen that the legal status of jemevis and the payment of salaries to Dedes are handled through the comparison of Alevism-Sunnism and mosque-jemevi. In this study, which is carried out with the qualitative research method and within the limitations of the relevant legal regulations and discussions, it is aimed to examine and investigate them with data based on the methodical knowledge of theology disciplines, especially the History of Sects and the History of Sufism. Because, it is important to reveal how the relevant legal regulations and discussions on these issues are compatible with the religious-institutional experience of these lands. Accordingly, the comparison of Alawite-Sunni and mosque-jemevi is not a correct comparison. It is seen that the legal regulations regarding the legal status of the jemevis, in which the groups belonging to the Alevi tradition perform their manners and etiquettes -and as places that they named with a new name instead of traditional names such as tekke, zaviye, dervish lodge or square house, big house, sect houseare in accordance with the religious-institutional experience of the Muslims.
