The article explores an impact of artist housing laws and role of artists in promoting gentrification on the future of artist live/work spaces with special focus upon artists of New York City. It discusses housing laws in context to rent control and its influence on the artist communities. It concludes that despite rent control and rent stabilization policies have been implemented to augment artist presence in neighborhoods however public opinion disfavors rent control.
