- Abstract
The article describes cases of deaths of skunks in Canada due to pandemic influenza virus A (H1N1) infection during mid-December 2009 to mid-January 2010. Results of microscopic examination of eight skunks revealed moderate rhinitis and severe bronchopneumonia. Observation showed splenic extramedullary hematopoiesis, plasmacytosis of both lymph nodes and spleen and mild plasmacytic glomerulonephritis with proteinuria. Bacteriologic culture of lung showed bacterial growth and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) analysis also confirmed influenza A virus.
