- Abstract
The article highlights the urgent need for conservation strategies for land hermit crabs due to unsustainable and illegal wildlife trade. Land hermit crabs are popular as pets worldwide, but captive breeding is challenging, so they are sourced from the wild. There have been numerous cases of unregulated and unsustainable trading, with thousands of individuals sold each week. Land hermit crabs play a vital ecological role and may be at risk of endangerment due to exploitation and habitat destruction. The article also discusses a recent incident of smuggling and emphasizes the need for updated regulations and enhanced enforcement to combat illegal wildlife trade.
