This article considers the importance of classroom management in high-poverty schools, reviews current trends in attrition among novice teachers within high-poverty schools, and offers guiding recommendations for novice teachers in building effective classroom management strategies that will support teachers as they begin their professional career. Strategies discussed include: consistent expectations, movement within instruction, authentic teacher-student relationships, student leaders, elicited feedback, and positive classroom climate.
