- Abstract
The authors discuss the hazards of evidence-based medicine and the importance of assessing variations in health care delivery. It is said that improved outcomes cannot be assured by an adherence to measures of processes of care in which using such measures to reward or penalize health care institution can cause harm. A study by M. R. Haymart and colleagues published within the issue that concerns the variations in radioactive iodine (RAI) use after thyroid cancer surgery is mentioned.
