- Abstract
In poultry probiotics it is necessary to evaluate strategies of use. The study evaluated the effect of progressive replacement of antibiotic growth promoter (APC) by probiotic on productive parameters, intestinal and bone morphometry in broilers from 1 to 21 days of age. 200 Cobb 500 male BB broilers were distributed in four treatments with 10 replicates and five animals per replicate. The treatments were: T1: basal diet with bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD:500 ppm) for 1-21 days; T2: basal diet with BMD (500 ppm) for 1-14 days and Enterococcus faecium (17.5 ppm) for 15-21 days; T3: basal diet with BMD (500 ppm) for 1-7 days and Enterococcus faecium (17.5 ppm) for 8-21 days and T4: basal diet with Enterococcus faecium (17.5 ppm) for 1-21 days. Production parameters were recorded and on day 21 two animals per replicate were sacrificed to collect jejunum and tibiotarsus samples. Data were analyzed by DCA using the Anova and Tukey procedure for comparison of means. The results showed that live weight and weight gain were different (p < 0.05) for T1 over T2; in intestinal morphometry, T4 had greater height and villus area (p < 0.05) than T1, T2 and T3; in crypt depth, T1 was lower than other treatments and in fracture resistance T4 was higher (p < 0.05). It is concluded that replacing APC with probiotics did not present differences between treatments and those treatments exclusively with antibiotics or probiotics influenced intestinal morphometry and resistance to fracture.
