THE STEPHEN COLBERT PROBLEM: THE MEDIA EXEMPTION FOR CORPORATE POLITICAL ADVOCACY AND THE "HALL TO THE CHEESE STEPHEN COLBERT NACHO CHEESE DORITOS 2008 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COVERAGE.".
- Authors
Jones, Clifford A.
- Abstract
The article discusses the arguments on corporate political advocacy prohibitions and the press and media doctrine in reference to Stephen Colbert's case. It states that the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) upheld the First Amendment rights of media corporations, which was argued by the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce as a violation of the Equal Protection clause. The article also states that there was no FECA violation on campaign contribution by the Colbert Report's "Hail to the Cheese" segment, citing its media exemption status.
