- Abstract
Garibnâme, which is a moral, mystical and instructive masnavi, is the greatest work of Turkish literature written in Anatolian Turkish in the fourteenth century. It is one of the leading, valuable and basic works of Turkish language and literature. Asik Pasha, the author of Garibnâme, is a conscious and knowledgeable plaintiff of Turkish, who uses the language in a simple way. The work is written in Turkish in order to educate the public. Some of the verbs identified in this work reflecting Turkish culture have been tried to be evaluated in terms of multi-meaning. Polysemy is that an indicator, with many factors, tells new concepts other than the real meaning. Meanwhile, polysemy is the phenomenon of meaning that occurs when a word is expanded to show more than one concept by expanding it for linguistic semantic reasons. The aim is to try to determine the meanings of verbs. This study was carried out on Garibname in order to examine and exemplify some very meaningful verbs determined in my ongoing work on meaning. It is seen that the verbs press, find out, rise, come, take-, cut-, read are used in two meanings and fall and arrange verbs are used in six meanings.
